Manger Plate

A large plate or platter for serving a delicious selection of cheese, fruit, vegetables, and cured meats for entertaining or just setting yourself up right for  a solo night of binge watching your favorite shows.  This piece was hand made from a porcelain clay body and decorated using a printing technique.  The painting is made on newsprint using underglaze and then dried.  At the time of application, a layer of colored slip is applied to the newsprint and then the painting is transferred from the paper to clay surface.  I then carve around the elements of the painting and use an underglaze wash to create an antique finish to the piece.  All clay and decorative elements are food safe.  Hand washing is recommended to preserve the quality of the print, but an occasional run through the dishwasher won't hurt anything.
